The Emergency Food Assistance Program ( TEFAP)
Food is ordered one week in advance of distribution day. Redford Township DPW picks up food from Wayne County Senior Services (Nutrition) and delivers it to Redford Interfaith Relief (RIR) the day before the first distribution day. An inventory count is taken at time of delivery, and after the final appointment distribution.
The Executive Director (or designated key volunteer) verifies all food deliveries from Redford Township on forms provided by Wayne County.
The Executive Director prepares an activity report monthly to comply with federal and county guidelines for surplus commodity food that enables RIR to feed needy people in the community.
This program currently assists 175 -195 households each month and 230 households are certified for the program.
After the TEFAP program is finished, if there is any left over food, it is then listed on the Pantry Transfer form and into RIR’s inventory.
